A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare

This production would be set in a 1920s jazz club. The Athenians leave the respectable part of Athens and venture into “The Forest” a speakeasy inhabited by the fairy people. There, the mortals are affected by the atmosphere of this magical world and the alcohol that comes with it. These designs represent a sampling of the colour palette for each group in the play. The audience forms a vital part of the jazz club atmosphere by sitting and drinking at cabaret tables integrated into the playing space. Like sprites in nature, these fairies wear reds and golds that make them so much a part of the richly decorated speakeasy the Athenians only see an astonishing foreign world and not individual magical creatures.
